La Fortuna di Umbria, Amersfoort

La Fortuna is a newly-opened italian ristorante trattoria in Amersfoort where I had dinner at the weekend. The place has a nice atmosphere, quite reminiscent of Italy. The food is also authentic and tasty, on the downside the front of house service is still working with training wheels. The staff are friendly and a bit disorganised. Another downside is that I found some of the dishes expensive.

I had the bresola which was good and lamb in a fruit and balsamic jus. The bresola was good; simple and honest flavours. The lamb was a nice idea, however I found it a bit chewy.

Wendy, my lovely Dutch girlfriend, started with a simple pasta peperoncino followed by cod on creamy polenta. So I got to listen to how she made the best choices (again!), this time it was true though. Pasta was excellent and the cod was spot on.

If you go for the house wine then the whites are better than the reds, although these are drinkable.
